I’m Claire Ladds, a UK-based author of dark and emotive fiction and short stories, often with a crime in there somewhere!
My short stories have been published in mainstream and literary magazines and collections in the UK, US and Australia, and online. I’m honoured to say that some have won an award or prize.
My fiction often incorporates crime or misdemeanour, or an internalised injustice. But I also write about love and heartache, relationships and responsibilities, and the pain and pleasure that these can create. I love to place my characters in untenable emotional, ethical and very real criminal situations, and let their story play out. I’m at my happiest when I’m making my characters suffer! In particular, I like to explore the topics and character anomalies that make people uncomfortable.
You can find me on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest), sharing bookish things, inspiration for my stories, little snippets of my work, and anything that I think can help other writers, too. On my blog you’ll find posts about my writing, including updates and longer sneaky peeks, as well as posts about the writer’s craft, the business of writing, and editing help, too.
